THE SITUATION

Spumador site in Caslino al Piano (CO) detects an early clogging of the air filters of the aseptic fillers, which significantly affects the management costs of the lines. Spumador wants to obtain a more efficient filter change solution.

ANALYSIS

Camfil filter with U15 efficiency was sent to the Camfil Tech Center to understand the cause of the rapid clogging that leads to quarterly replacement of the filter.

Analyses Carried out With:

  • SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope)
  • ESD (Energy-Dispersive Spectroscopy)
ANALYSIS RESULTS
  • The air outlet side of the filter membrane is free of particles and there are no signs of clogging.
  • Air inlet side is covered by a thin layer of carbon & salt crystals, presumably from the washing and sanitizing activities of the process machine which block passage of air and cause increase in pressure drop.

Cc2000
SOLUTION
  • Installation of 4 CC2000 air purifiers equipped with 55% ePM1 prefilters
  • Filtered air coming out of the purifiers and ducted onto filter suctions creates a barrier and prevents chemical residues from depositing on the filter, clogging it prematurely.
Results

With the Camfil CC2000 Air filters, the following results were obtained:

  • Improved air quality entering the filters by reducing their microbiological load and breaking down airborne contaminants  derviving from cleaning and sanitization procedures.
  • Reduced number of filter replacement interventions on aseptic lines, from 3 filter replacements per year to only 1 filter replacement per year.
  • Savings of about 60% on the cost of purchasing filters for aseptic lines .
  • Reduced labor costs by 1/3.
