Biosafety cabinet certification

Camfil's NATA accredited facility can perform various compliance tests to validate the self-contained laboratory enclosures known as biohazard cabinets or biosafety cabinets, as per the following Australian and International Standards:

  • AS/ISO 14644.1 – Particle Counting in work zone
  • AS 1807.15 – Determination of illuminance
  • AS 1807.4.7 – Determination of sound level at installed work stations, safety cabinets and pharmaceutical isolators
  • AS 1807.4.8 – Determination of inward air velocity
  • AS 1807.4.9 – Determination of air barrier containment of laminar flow safety cabinets
  • AS 1807.4.10 – Determination of intensity of radiation from UV lamps
  • NSF/ANSI 49 Biosafety Cabinetry Certification (Annex 5) Downflow Velocity
  • NSF/ANSI 49 Biosafety Cabinetry Certification (Annex 5) Inflow Velocity (face velocity) test

At the conclusion of our comprehensive testing, you will receive a detailed analysis report and a NATA endorsed Certificate of Compliance to verify that your biological safety cabinet meets Australian and International Standard specifications.

CLASS I AND CLASS II BIOSAFETY CABINET TESTING

Camfil can provide NATA accredited testing services for the following:

  • Class I Biological Safety Cabinet / Biosafety Cabinet
  • Class II Type A1 Biological Safety Cabinet / Tissue Culture Hood (Biosafety Cabinet)
  • Class II Type A2 Biological Safety Cabinet / Tissue Culture Hood (Biosafety Cabinet)
  • Class II Type B1 Biological Safety Cabinet / Tissue Culture Hood (Biosafety Cabinet)
  • Class II Type B2 Biological Safety Cabinet / Tissue Culture Hood (Biosafety Cabinet)

In most cases, fumigation of biosafety cabinets is required prior to testing. Refer to our Decontamination Fumigation services for more details.

WHEN SHOULD BIOSAFETY CABINETS BE CERTIFIED?

  • On site, upon installation and/or commissioning, prior to use
  • After any mechanical or electrical maintenance
  • After filter replacement
  • After re-location of clean work stations or safety cabinets
  • Re-tested at least annually
  • Re-tested as required by appropriate regulatory authority
  • In special circumstances, such as a significant change in the work program, or where impaired operation is suspected
