Ornestation mors - artificial insemination (AI) farming
Ornestation Mors uses air filtration solutions with a focus on clean air in the collection barns to safeguard biosafety. A tightened requirement from the breeding companies is that boar stations must install filtration or UVC rays in the ventilation system to ensure clean and fresh air in the barns, in order to reduce the risk of infection among the boars.

Ornestation Mors is a family-owned business, where the primary business area is to produce and deliver quality semen for Danish pig production.
Biosecurity
Historically, there have not been many disease cases in the Danish AI sector (artificial insemination), but in recent years the focus on biosecurity has increased significantly due to, among other things, swine influenza, African swine fever and PRRS virus.
Stricter requirements
Potentially, a single infection case in a boar stud could have serious consequences for the customers. Stricter requirements have therefore been issued by the breeding companies. One of these is that boar stations in Denmark must install filtration or UVC radiation in the ventilation/fresh air supplied to the housing facilities to prevent disease in the boars and reduce the risk of infection.
The best solution
Michael, Camfil and the partner exchanged many ideas in the development phase to find the best solution for Ornestation Mors’ boar stables that could meet the new requirements.The breeding companies’ requirements for MERV filter classes were converted to ISO 16890 filter classes, and Camfil carried out LCC calculations in accordance with pressure drop, energy consumption and efficiency so that the most effective and at the same time energy-saving filters could be selected.
When the calculations were completed, Absolute VGHF filters in E11 filter class (EPA) were selected. The filters are installed in the central ventilation systems located at each stable, as well as in Camfil’s CamCube HF filter housings, which are installed after the ventilation systems.
Absolute VGHF is an efficient compact filter designed for final filtration in, among other things, ventilation systems and filter housings. The Absolute filters can be used in clean environments and protect the pigs and co-workers – among other things by removing particles and dust of all sizes down to ultrafine particles.
It has been a very important project to raise the level of biosecurity at Ornestation Mors. The greatest benefit of having installed filters and/or UVC light is that Danish pig producers can feel more confident about the product they receive from Ornestation Mors.
The result is excellent. It has been a productive collaboration with Camfil, who were very helpful in the development phase and identified the best solution for Ornestation Mors and our air filtration. In the project, we focused strongly on ensuring that the systems were simple, standardised, energy efficient, and that maintenance would be easy and manageable.

Ornestation Mors has 9 production sites with more than 1,700 boars and over 80 co-workers. The company supplies approximately 35% of semen sales in Denmark, coming from boars from some of the world’s leading breeding companies such as DanBred, Topigs Norsvin and Danish Genetics.
