Key achievements

Significant reduction of CO₂ emissions.

Large savings in energy consumption.

Camfil help to identify opportunities to optimise the remaining facilities.

Solution

It was time to change the HEPA filters in a ventilation system in this Biotechnology companies production, and Camfil – a long-standing partner – was contacted by this companies HVAC specialists. They were interested in knowing if there was a better and more efficient HEPA filter on the market than the ones that were in the ventilation system at the time.

This Biotechnology company has a strong focus on sustainability and uses every opportunity to improve and optimize purchasing and consumption. The requirements for new filters are less CO₂ emissions and lower pressure drop over the filters to achieve the best and most efficient results.

Camfil recommended the Absolute VGXL ProSafe, which is an extremely reliable and energy efficient HEPA filter for very high airflows. The filter is lighter, stronger and greener and developed with, among other things, the demands of the pharmaceutical industry in mind.

The HVAC specialists went with Camfil’s recommendation and replaced their 6 existing HEPA filters with 6 Absolute VGXL ProSafe H14 HEPA filters.

The company’s own measurements immediately showed that there was a lot of money to be saved, with the new filter’s low pressure drop compared to the previous filters. This also means a large reduction in this laboratories CO₂ emissions.

Challenges

This biotechnology company was looking for an opportunity to reduce CO₂ emissions in connection with filtration in their production, and when the existing HEPA filters in a ventilation system had to be replaced, it was an obvious opportunity to investigate new options.

Optimize with filters with a lower pressure drop than the existing filters in order to achieve energy savings.

Help to calculate life cycle costs on filtration for all ventilation systems throughout the facility.

Results

After changing to Camfil’s Absolute VGXL ProSafe H14 HEPA filters, the facilities own measurements have shown a significant reduction in Co2 emissions as well as large savings on energy consumption. The result is so satisfactory that this biotechnology company has requested Camfil to review all of the company’s filter installations in order to calculate life cycle costs for the filters, so that optimization can be done wherever it makes sense. This process is currently ongoing.

Victor Sand Christensen, HVAC Specialist at the Biotechnology company, explains “When you call Camfil you get quick help and advice. I really appreciate the cooperation”.
